Common questions
These are some of the questions families often have when they are just getting started. There are no simple answers, but these starting points may help.
My child was just diagnosed. Where do I start?
Start by learning about the condition, connecting with reputable organizations, and discussing available supports with your healthcare team. Sometimes it can be helpful to focus on one step at a time rather than trying to navigate everything at once.
Building your support team
Your support team may include healthcare providers, therapists, educators, support workers, community organizations, and family members. Every child is different, and the right team will depend on your child's unique strengths and needs.
Questions to ask professionals
What supports or services may be available? What assessments or follow-up appointments are recommended? Are there community organizations that could help? What should we focus on over the next few months? Where can we learn more about this condition?
